A skill that I have been honing this year at university is Screenwriting. Two samples of my screenwriting work can be found below.
Sample 1 :
This is the first 17 pages from a screenplay called Lost Souls Forever. It's set in a post-nuclear apocalypse similar to that of video game series Fallout or Mad Max: Fury Road. It follows the story of Opiffany, a women living under a dictatorship called the Red Regime. The earth has turned barren and the nuclear war caused many people to die. The survivors of the fallout are often left infertile or ill. The Red Regime mandates that all fertile women must bear a child every two years in order to regain what the population once was. Women are held in large centres or camps in order to facilitate this. Our heroine, Opiffany strives for a better life with her girlfriend, Jeong-Ja and plans to escape the Red Regime's clutches. I also took inspiration from The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood as well as current affairs in the news surrounding reproductive rights.

Sample 2 :
This is the first 50 pages in a current ongoing work called Thank You For The Venom named after the My Chemical Romance song of the same title. It's set in the early 2000's at the height of the so-called "emo" hype. This coming-of-age story follows Mercy, a teenager as she tries to navigate friendships and school. However, things take a much darker turn when she is nearly sexually assaulted by her best friend's crush. She is painted as a villain rather than a victim by her best friend who believes her crushes lies. The rest of the school quickly follow suit. This tale focuses on Mercy's journey of hope and revenge. On an allegorical level, this story is about the late roman mythological telling of the figure Medusa. Medusa was assaulted by god of the sea, Poseidon and when she turned to the goddess of wisdom, Athena for help was instead cast out and given snakes as hair for punishment. The title of the screenplay/film reflects the snakes. I chose to set it in the early 2000's emo culture as teenage girls were widely mocked by the general media and others for their dedication to their favourite bands for seemingly no other reason except deep rooted misogyny. I felt that the two stories have overlapping themes would mesh well together.
